"Construction" poem: Put the poem on sentence strips and put them in the pocket chart in order. Find pictures of fort, bridge, wall, house, wire, wood, tape, and glue. Back the pictures with construction paper and laminate them. Have the children match the picture to the word. If your children are at a higher level have them match the word to the word in the poem.
Construction By Sharon MacDonald
Construction is a word
I use an awful lot.
It's making forts and bridges
With anything you've got.
When building walls and houses,
I need some wire and wood.
I use a lot of tape and glue
To hold it tight, real good.
This can be used to send home to the parents with activities to do along with the topic of the poem. See Idea Bags on pages 15, 16, and 17.
