"Autumn" Poem: Write the following poem on sentence strips. Put the strips in a pocket chart. Have the children highlight the words with a "Ws" in them. They can match the rhyming words and find the five consonant blends, "sn," "fr," "gr" and the two "bls." They also can find the two consonant digraphs, "wh" and "th." For other activities using the "Autumn" poem and to have a home/school connection, see Idea Bags, pages 1-3.
Autumn By Sharon MacDonald
As autumn leaves fall all around,
They make a blanket on the ground.
When winter winds begin to blow,
The roots are safe from the freezing snow.
