"My Ears" Poem: Read the following poem to the children. Talk about the word "hears" and how it is non-standard English. Explain that non-standard words are sometimes used in poetry, and other literature, to allow the poet to present the material is a way he desires (it is called "poetic license"). Write the poem on sentence strips. Have the children place the strips in the order that they occur in the poem.

But how in the world does it get out?
