Frozen Birdseed: Collect two pie pans of birdseed. Mix dirt with the birdseed and add water to one of the pans. Freeze it. Leave the second pan dry. When the first pan is frozen, put both pans on a tray with tweezers. The children use the tweezers to see which birdseed is easier to pick up with tweezers. For how to do this activity using a scientific process see Everyday Discoveries, pages 65-66.
